I have been wanting to tell you this for a while but I wasn’t sure exactly how to say it. I suppose with your article (which is fantastic, by the way) you’ve given me a good opportunity to be honest with you too. I have massive respect for you because of your honesty about your sexuality and the way that forced me to question my own misconceptions about homosexuality and gay people, but especially the things that I had been taught as a Christian. You were the first of a couple of openly gay men I had any appreciable contact with, and the fact that you were a perfectly normal guy who I actually respected gave me quite a healthy dose of cognitive dissonance. With a bit of critical thinking I realised that homophobia doesn’t line up with reason or the teachings of Jesus, and since I place great stock in both my only option was to part with my prejudice. Being around you really made me rethink things, and I owe you a lot for that. Thanks 🙂

Hope you’re doing well! We miss you over this way 🙂

Sorry if autocorrect has done funny things – I’m typing one-handed on an iPad with a bleeding nose. Ha.

I just typed a lengthy comment, one handed with a bleeding nose, on how your honesty about your sexuality made me challenge the way I saw the world, and it all got deleted when I tried to post it. I guess this is all I needed to say anyway 🙂 you’re a champ, Chris. Thanks.

Hope you’re keeping well over there!

Oh. It did post after all!
